Billiards Art

I am the Layout/Designer Person for a Billiards publication in Phoenix, AZ. As I do my work, I come across things that inspire me to create a work of art involving Billiards.

Billiards art is a different kind of thing, the colors are difficult to work with. The shapes are hard to work with and then of course, there is only so much you can do with the basic color set that is the same as a box of 16 crayola crayons.

I get in my mood though, as I work. I think, hey, I could do this or I could do that... and try it out. Most of it is experimental and I don't expect something to come out that I am fond of. It is always a surprise when I like how something ends up.

I use mostly photo-manipulation because, well, honestly I dont want to spend the amount of time necessary to do an illustration for something that I may not like most of the time. Whatever Billiards Art you find on here is yours to grab for non-commercial use. I put them up for prints if someone wants one printed out.

So for those of you who like the Billiards Art, have at it... I will probably have more than the average artist but since I never know if something comes out that I like, I can't promise how often you will find new work on here.

Free Portfolio Site

I signed up for a free portfolio site at coroflot.com. As far as results go, I have none yet but I started creating my portfolio and its great to have a place to send people with a quick link to see your work.

Free Stuff

Marketing, marketing, marketing... that's what they tell you. It sounds boring but for me, it can be a lot of fun, especially when I decide to post some free stuff.

These are images that I no longer have the high resolution files for, and therefore, are useless to me. I made them a while ago and used them for different things but I no longer can use them.

They can be used for anything from MySpace layouts to cropping them for buttons. You can reduce the transparency and have a soft silhouette over another color... they are neat so I hate to see them not go to use.

I am releasing them under the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 license. The attribution part may be waived if it is a print publication. I know what a pain that is for print in some publications, that is why I am doing that.

Please let me know if you use them, I'd like to see what becomes of them :)

Enjoy!

We create multimedia experiences, logos, advertisements, marketing materials, newspapers, catalogs, and can put whatever you need on just about anything.

Our services are affordable and of high quality. We provide vector graphic design for logos and upon request for other materials. Our print media meets the industry standards and is created using the latest software and tools.

Web Graphics & Design is our forte and welcome inquiries for this or anything else we can provide you. From custom web designs to catalog graphics, we can provide high quality, fast turnaround and always great customer service.

We are always available for work on sites that need periodic maintenance. Send us an email or call us at 1-888-339-2245 for information and pricing.

Why a blog?

We hope to provide tools, resources and advice on this blog. We also have people on hand that would like to post lists of links for various free and paid services that we feel are well worth it.

We will also be posting portfolio items now and then to show off our work.

Free Stuff & Licensing
Our work will be clearly marked whether it is copyrighted or any other license. Currently, we normally use a creative commons attribution license for anything that is free. We feel it is a good way to dump our unused graphics and at the same time help others who may be able to use it.

Creative Commons Attribution 3.0
The only conditions for this license is that if it is used for the web, attribution must be given somewhere on the page it is displayed. Small print is fine for this, even small, light print. Just as long as it is text (not an image), we will be happy. We do not ask for attribution for any print media, unless there is a "credits" area already. If the print media would be compromised by giving attribution, just skip it, we don't want to ruin your work with that.

If any of our work is copyrighted, it means that we either can't give it away or haven't decided if we are going to give it away. If you see something you like, just email us and ask if you can have it.

Stock Photography
We have our own personal preferences for the art we use for our projects. We are firm believers in using free stuff first, if artistically possible. I enjoy using istockphoto.com the most, as it has a huge library and offers the ability for artist to make money from their work.

We also use morguefile.com and sxc.hu for free images. There are a lot of images available on these sites so it is always prudent to check them before buying.

Illustrations/Clip Art
I think for the most part, there will be more of a shift towards illustrations, vector or svg graphics for designs for the web. We create most of these types of items and will post them for free when we have had our way with them. There wont be many, but there will be some, so if you are looking to become more familiar with these types of graphics, check back now and then and see what is posted.

Please be patient as we just started this blog in 8/2008 and hope to have it up and running with lots of stuff by the end of the month.

Thanks for popping by and I hope you visit again soon!
